This book was interesting. But certainly not my piece of cake. I read it mostly to finish it. Can’t say i enjoyed it much.
Firstly: The main character Katilyn she feel in love a bit too quickly. Seriously “i love you” came so fast i was shocked. So relationship built up was poor, between all the characters.
Rob and Gaberial hated each other which was the most baseless thing in this book to keep up till the end. The hate on Gaberial side was built upon jealousy and envy and Rob side because he thought the other guy was evil. But seriously in the whole book Rob is supposed to be the goody-goody than why could he not show the same amount of compassion and tolerance towards Gaberial even when he figures out he is not evil.
Secondly The story itself was not so bad, the execution was questionable though. If the book was little more all rounder and all the characters got some space not just and not just Katilyn and Gaberial it would have been more fun.
Now probably if i had read this book few years back i would have enjoyed it more. The best part about this book was its cover 😛
Well I discovered this TV show in January. I was sold on it as soon I learned that the hero and the narrator was a 200 year old immortal.
The story revolves around a doctor who was turned immortal 200 years ago by a gunshot in heart. He woke and every time after that he dies he is reborn in the water. Henry Morgan works at the morgue of NYPD. Been there about 6 years. Now being 200 years old means that he knows about things and death very well. Because he has died numerous times by various diseases, have been murdered and died in accidents. Only thing he does not die of is old age.
The show is basically a cop show in a way, as Dr. Henry Morgan ends up working with two homicide detectives once he unique set of skills to read crime scenes and especially gather clues from the dead bodies is discovered. There is also a background story not much but certainly few flashback scenes mostly involving his late wife; Abigail. Henry also has an adopted son who actually is the most funny character of the story; Abraham or Abe. Well Abe is old in late 60s. And can be bit hilarious when he calls Henry dad which is rare but at times he does.
There show is not very complicated, there is suspense but not very much. It is kind of show that by the end of every episode things look up. Or the Doctor says something very smart and nice. This show makes one laugh. It’s not funny show but is good.
Really hope they do continue to the next season. One of the good new seasons.
Neil Gaiman, i have heard the name of the author before but had not read anything by him. Caroline was an animated movie i had watched with my brothers and was fascinated by it. The colors, the dream like state of all characters, the wicked shadows, everything in it was dark and at the same time was so colorful. At that time i did not know it was based on a book. But reading this book i could see the similarities in the writing style. Neil Gaiman writes books on children or more like on children nightmares and imaginary games. He says the most captivating things in his text.
The memories fade and blend and smudge together.
Different people remember things differently, and you’ll not get any two people to remember anything the same, whether they were there or not. You stand two of you right next to each other, and they could be continents away for all it means anything.
This book is all about a middle age man going back to the house of his childhood friend, he had suffered some great loss and he arrives unconsciously to the house of a short term friend he had made at age of 7. There he sits by a pond which he remembered his friend telling him was an Ocean. From there he falls in old memories. When he was a boy, made a friend, with a girl who was not what she looked like, but then nobody really is what they look. They had a small adventure which leads to number of very complicated events. Of course he is made to forget those events. but
Childhood memories are sometimes covered and obscured beneath the things that come later, like childhood toys forgotten at the bottom of a crammed adult closet but they are never lost for good.
The story revolves around a boy who likes to read and is people shy, but there is this thing the author says, which is next to my own heart
I liked myths. They weren’t adult stories and they weren’t children stories. They were better than that they just were.
The story is like a child nightmarish dream, its vivid but creatures in it don’t have names, they just are because the children do not question thing like possibilities, believing in things which are not possible is very different for them, they had not yet put the world in the boxes of possible and impossible, they had not established which dreams are silly and which are just dreams.
Adults follow paths. Children explore.
the whole book, is about a boy’s encounter with people who are not normal human beings, and other creatures which come from the beyond the bounds of this reality. This is a different fantasy. It darkly beautiful book.
Adults should not weep, i knew. They did not have mothers who could comfort them.
